“In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].” Proverbs 3:6 AMP
Many times, we have quoted this Scripture but what does it really mean? Is it a simple ascent to God for our daily matters? Is it just inviting God into our daily workings? This verse is much more complex than that!
The word acknowledge in the Hebrew means to “recognize,” “to know,” “acknowledge,” “inspect carefully,” “and “realize.” Each of these words is a word of activity. They all lead to the same place, an acceptance of that about which is being evaluated! If acceptance is complete, then action is required. Many Christians today accept God’s Word but never out it into action! It isn’t enough to give God verbal ascent, but faith and obedience must follow! Read the words of Proverbs 4,
“Consider well and watch carefully the path of your feet, and all your ways will be steadfast and sure.”
Proverbs 4:26 AMP
Do you see it? “Consider well…!” That is your responsibility resulting in carefully watching your path. The result will be, He will make your way “steadfast and sure.” The Scripture implies that you are moving forward not simply sitting on a “bless me” cushion! Psalm says,
“O LORD, lead me in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight (direct, right) before me.”
Psalm 5:8 AMP
Again, indications of activity on the part of the believer! But how does one get to the point of moving forward and trusting God? The opening verse gives us the answer…know and acknowledge God! It is through spending time with the King that we get to know Him intimately. When I was in the palace of the king, I learned a lot about him because of the days I spent in his service. I knew his ways, timing, food preferences, and daily schedule. I could see the trueness of his love for the people of the land he ruled! All of that of that led me to be a better servant and prepared for the time he may need my skills! Oh, that we would do the same with our King!
The only way to cultivate faith is to walk in it. The very definition of faith is that which is not seen!
“Now faith is the assurance (title deed, confirmation) of things hoped for (divinely guaranteed), and the evidence of things not seen [the conviction of their reality--faith comprehends as fact what cannot be experienced by the physical senses].” Hebrews 11:1AMP
The good new though is that God does not expect us to walk blindly in hope that what He said is true. No, He has given us a record of His performance! The Word of God is a record of His faithfulness and love for us! It is upon that foundation that I can put one foot in front of the other and trust His Devine plan for my life!
Let me encourage you today to “recognize,” “know,” “acknowledge,” “inspect carefully,” “and “realize” the greatness and faithfulness of our God! We are reminded the book of Chronicles that the eyes of the Lord are looking to strengthen those whose hearts are committed to Him! Will you be one of those He will strengthen?
Have a bless day, Pastor Ken
