"Hear the Truth"
“Hear the Truth”
October 24, 2021
Teach me Your way, O LORD, I will walk and live in Your truth; Direct my heart to fear Your name [with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder]. I will give thanks and praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart; And will glorify Your name forevermore. For great is Your lovingkindness and graciousness toward me; and You have rescued my life from the depths of Sheol [from death].”
Psalm 86:11-13 AMP
The Psalmist reveals his heart as he penned the words to Psalm 86. In the opening verses he cries out to God, “Incline Your ear, O Lord and answer me, for I am distressed and needy (I long for Your help.)” Psalm 86:1 He realizes that he is in a place of despair and needs a way out. There are many today in the same situation. The circumstances and pressures of this life overwhelm them and they are in need of a respite from the storms!
The Psalmist knows that there is only one place from which his help will come from, the Lord God Almighty! Look at those words, “Teach me your ways,” and “direct my heart…” He is not looking to blame God or find an excuse to turn from God but rather seeking a clearer revelation about the God of wonders! I am reminded of the words of Christ,
“Jesus said to the people who believed in him, “You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8 31-32 NLT
Notice that the promise here is to those who have believed in Him! The truth of the matter is that you are on a road of deception if you are not following Christ! The things of the Spirit can only be discerned by the Spirit not by the flesh. Notice that in the opening verse the Psalmist asks God “direct my heart to fear Your name (with awe-inspired reverence and submissive wonder.)” There is no escaping the fact that our part is to be submissive to the Word once it has been revealed to us. Many today clearly know and understand the way and call of Christ but continue to walk in rebellion. Rebellion is the opposite of submissiveness!
Walking in submissiveness is not an easy thing. There are times as our flesh wants what our flesh wants. If we give into the carnal desires they will result in death, separation from the relationship that Christ died to restore. Submissiveness thought will result in the giving of thanks and praise to God with all our hearts! That thankfulness is born out of a knowledge of how great a price was paid for my eternal redemption. The Psalmist writes, “For great is Your lovingkindness and graciousness toward me; and You have rescued my life from the depths of Sheol [from death].” His focus isn’t on the present but rather on the eternal issues of this life.
I often ask of congregation if receiving the salvation of their souls redeemed from eternal hell fire is enough for them? Is it for you? Can you be satisfied the rest of your life based on that one fat despite any storm of trail that comes your way?
I would encourage you today to taste and see that the Lord, He is good. God has a plan for each of us and has given us the greatest gift anyone could want…a second chance to do it right!
Have a blessed day,
